Cricket's three formats and Bangladesh's favourite tournaments

90jili T20 and ODI cricket match stadium atmosphere

Cricket's three main formats — T20, ODI and Test — each have their own pace and strategy. T20 is the fastest format, where the situation can change with every ball. ODI is a medium-length fifty-over game with comparatively more room for strategy to unfold. Test cricket is a five-day contest where patience and consistency are the keys to winning.

The most excitement in Bangladesh is generated by the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL. From the galleries in Dhaka to tea stalls across the country — the whole of Bangladesh is in a festive mood during BPL. Beyond that, the ICC T20 World Cup and international bilateral series also attract a lot of interest in the betting markets. Bangladesh fans pay the most attention when the Tigers are playing.

There are differences in betting markets by format. In T20, short-term event markets such as sixes, wickets and powerplay scores are more popular. In Test cricket, session-based and innings-related markets are more common. 90jili has separate markets arranged for each format, so you can bet according to your preference.

Popular betting markets — how each one works

Several markets are available for cricket at 90jili. The most commonly used markets are briefly explained below.

Match Winner

Betting on which team will win the match. The simplest market — choose between team A or team B. There is no draw in T20, so there are only two options.

Toss Winner

Betting on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The toss is a completely independent event — it has no relation to a team's strength, so odds are generally almost equal for both teams.

Top Batsman

Betting on which batsman within a specific team will score the most runs. This market has multiple options and odds vary by batsman.

Total Runs Over/Under

You choose whether the total runs in an innings or the whole match will be above (over) or below (under) a set number. Pitch conditions and weather influence this market.

Multi Bet

Multiple markets from different matches are combined together. You win only if all selections are correct. Example: placing three separate bets together multiplies the total odds, so the potential return is higher. If even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Top Bowler

Betting on which bowler will take the most wickets in an innings. Whether the pitch favours spin or pace plays an important role in this market.

Odds are written in three formats — how to read them

Odds on betting platforms can be displayed in three different formats — decimal, fractional and American. All three convey the same information, just expressed differently. 90jili generally uses decimal format, but knowing the others helps when reading international markets.

Format Example (Team A to win) Explanation
Decimal 3.00 Total return including stake. A ৳500 bet returns ৳1,500 in total.
Fractional 2/1 ৳2 profit for every ৳1 staked.
American +200 ৳200 profit on a ৳100 bet (a plus sign indicates the underdog).

Example 1 (all three formats, same value): Team A to win — decimal 3.00 = fractional 2/1 = American +200. A ৳500 bet returns ৳1,500 in total if Team A wins (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 stake); if Team A loses, ৳500 is gone.

Example 2 (favourite): Team B to win — decimal 1.80 = fractional 4/5 = American -125. American minus odds show how much stake is needed to make ৳100 profit. A ৳500 bet returns ৳900 in total if Team B wins (৳400 profit).

How a multi bet is calculated

If three separate selections have odds of 1.40, 1.60 and 1.90 respectively, the combined odds will be:

1.40 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.26 (approximate)

A ৳100 bet returns ৳426 in total if all three selections are correct. If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost. A multi bet offers a higher return, but the pressure of getting every selection right is also higher.

Football and other sports — differences from cricket

Alongside cricket, 90jili also offers betting on football and a few other sports. In football, three outcomes are possible — Team A win, Team B win, and draw. This is why the market structure for football differs from cricket.

In cricket, odds shift over by over during a match, whereas in football they change with the number of goals. Cricket has comparatively more individual performance-based markets (such as top batsman, century), while football is dominated by team result and goals markets.

Beyond sports betting, 90jili has a large collection of casino games. For live casino games, you can visit the Ezugi Live Casino page, where you get a real experience with live dealers.

Live in-play betting — odds shift with wickets and overs

Live

In-play betting is the ability to place bets while a match is in progress. In cricket, the situation changes after every ball — when a wicket falls the batting team's odds lengthen, and when a six is hit the odds shorten.

Take the example of Team A needing 20 runs off the last over. If two consecutive sixes are hit in the 18th over, Team A's odds of winning will drop quickly. If a wicket falls in the next over, the odds will rise again. This rapid change is what makes in-play betting different.

There is little time to make decisions in in-play betting. It is better not to place a bet in a rush without properly understanding the situation. Remember — betting is for entertainment; it is not a reliable source of income.

Some practical tips before you start betting

Understand the format before betting

The pace and type of markets differ across T20, ODI and Test. Start with the format you understand best.

Set your budget first

Decide how much you will bet before each session and stick to that limit. If you reach it, take a break for the day.

Focus on one market

Spreading bets across many markets at the same time increases confusion. Stick to one — match winner or over/under.

Stay calm in live betting

In in-play betting, make decisions based on what you see rather than on emotion. Rushed decisions rarely work out.

Compare odds

Look at the odds across different markets and check for yourself which ones seem straightforward to understand. Decimal odds give the most direct calculation.

Betting is entertainment — not income

Cricket betting is for enjoyment. If you lose, it is not right to chase losses by placing more bets. Keep a clear head.

Frequently Asked Questions

The main markets — match winner, top batsman, over/under — are available in both tournaments. However, BPL features Bangladeshi teams, so local bettors tend to be more familiar with it. IPL has a slightly wider and deeper market due to the international-level players involved. Since both are T20 format, the pace of play is similar.

In cricket, every ball can shift the course of a match. When a wicket falls, the batting team's chances of winning decrease; a boundary or six increases them. Bookmakers reflect these changes in the odds immediately. That is why there is less time to make decisions in live betting.

Yes — if the total runs equal exactly the set number, some platforms may void the bet or return the stake. However, in most cases bookmakers set the over/under line at a decimal number (e.g. 159.5) rather than a whole number, to avoid a tie. Check the platform's terms and conditions for the specific rules.

Generally, correlated markets from the same match cannot be combined in a multi bet — for example, match winner and top batsman from the same match cannot be placed together in a multi, because they are related to each other. There is no issue building a multi bet using selections from different matches or tournaments.

If a match is completely cancelled, the stake is generally returned. If the match is partially played and a result is determined by the Duckworth-Lewis method, bets are settled on that result. Read 90jili's terms and conditions for the specific policy.
